Socks and sandals

A dig in North Yorkshire by a British team has unearthed a Roman sandal with sock fibres on it suggesting that the fasion faux pas was trust upon us innocent Britons by them meddling Romans. Don't believe me? Have a look at this BBC article.

It may be too much to suggest that Jesus and the Apostles wore socks and sandals as the Middle East is slightly warmer then North Yorkshire but perhaps some of the greats such as Augustine may have worn the odd pair?
